and that breaking news is happening near l.a. right now. this is a live look at the backup that is the result of a bus, a tour bus, that has overturned on the 210 freeway in the inland everybody fire area, specifically in irwin dale. fire crews on scene tell us there are between 30 and 40 victims. the bus apparently crashed into a big rig. this happened less than an hour ago. chopper above the scene this is a live look here, you just see the backup this is in the east bound direction. >> wow. >> the cars on the right side of your screen, westbound, moving looks like nearly at the limit but we have video earlier of the accident and it shows dozens of fire and ambulances responding

leandro with more on what happened. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. the rim fire has literally exploded overnight. i had to check the numbers twice to make sure they were accurate. it jumped by 38,000 acres this morning since the last count yesterday but bay area firefighters, they continue to answer the call. this morning, the al meet da county fire department sent another strike team, made up of 22 firefighters, there are actually now three strike teams, two local and one office of emergency services strike team from the bay area helping out now. more than 1300 firefighters, now just 2% contained that's down from 5% earlier. it is a massive, smoky fire that's spreading to the southeast edge of highway 120 near yosemite and grove land. suppression is expected to improve with the help of military-type aircraft. it's also much cooler now, but the fire jumped at containment line near the firefighters' base camp. nine structures burned. the sheriff's department advising resident notice community of pine mountain lake

bay area news. to fires of a different sort, developing news in the financial world. the nasdaq market has been shut down, nothing trading for almost two hours now business and tech reporter scott mczbru in the newsroom. how big a problem is this and do we know what happened? >> an all electronic market, marla, i suppose we can say the problem is electronic, a glitch of some sort. they have a ceremony every morning to start the nasdaq. it is entirely computer based. you can see folks at 6:30 our time you 9:14 our time exactly, the market shut down. if you have an open order it is still valid, your buy or sell will execute when the market comes back online. they told us they will give us a five-minute warning when that happens. right now the mark heats been offline for one hour and 44

fallout from the rocket defense system. another military leader says the attempted attack appears to be an isolated incident. he is no longer bradley manning. the army private sentenced to military prison for seeking classified documents says he plans to live out the rest of his life as a woman to and wants to be called chelsea. in a statement read the "today" show this morning, manning's attorney says, the private wants to begin hormone therapy as soon as possible and wants people to use the new name and feminine pronoun in reference. the spokesperson for the army responded to today's announcement saying the military does not provide hormone therapy or sex reassignment surgery. manning was sentenced to 35 years in prison yesterday for leaking more than 700,000 documents to the wikileaks website while in iraq in 2010. for the very first time, southern california teenager hannah anderson is speaking out about her kidnapping that led toon amber alert across six states. anderson speaking exclusively to

the "today" show this morning. she was kidnapped in southern california earlier this month and rescued eventually in idaho after abductor james dimaggio was gunned down by police. the bodies of both her mother and her brother were found in dimaggio's burned home. dimaggio says her mother is the reason she is able to see herself as a survivor. >> in the beginning, i was a victim. but now, knowing everyone out there is helping me, i consider myself a survivor instead. my mom raised me to be strong. >> didn't get a chance to catch that we have posted hannah's full interview on our website, nbcbayarea.com. all you have to do is search hannah haanderson. firefighters battiling a house fire in halfway make a discovery ofdroefrsd marijuana plants. they responded to garage fire lon laurie way at 10:30 last

night. when they went inside, they found a marijuana grow operation. they found the plants four to five feet tall and several areas of the home, including three bedrooms and also the garage. >> there's multiple plants in each room of this three-bedroom house, i would guesstimate over 200 plants. >> amazing. i never knew anything like that was going on here in the neighborhood. >> no one was home at the time of the fire. the exact cause is under investigation, but officials say it appears to have started outside near an electrical meter. we now know a tech worker shot and killed at an east san jose restaurant was a father who had another baby on the watch police telling us the victim is 36-year-old shin win, win was inside a restaurant on alum rock avenue monday night when he and two other men were shot. that other victim is expected to survive. the mercury news reporting win worked at juniper networks and lived with his wife and his

3-year-old daughter in south san jose. win's wife is reportedly right now in her third trimester of pregnant which is a son on the way. no arrests have been made and whip's death now marking the city's 31st homicide of the year. the mountain view police department is crediting one of its k-9s with a major meth bust. here is a picture of a dog named zeus, zeus sitting next to that stash. police say he sniffed out two pounds of meth yesterday. he found the meth inside of a hidden compartment in a hidden vehicle r he also found the drug money in a loaded handgun next to it. oakland police call thug one an old school crime with a new twist. this morning, the department warning everybody in the bay area to be very much on the lookout for fake utility workers. a man dressed as a pg&e worker came to their home tuesday

afternoon. this is in the upscale crocker high lands neighborhood. the man says he is there to check the easement in the backyard of the neighborhood project. that guy was nice, very professional but while he was in that backyard with the team, another man was inside the home stealing $5 to $10,000 in jewelry and cash. the victims, they didn't realize they had been ripped off until the men were gone. >> we lived here 45 years, always felt very secure. i don't know how long it will take, if we ever get that back. >> one of the suspects was wear a hard gatt hat and gloves, the other wearing a tan fisherman-style hat. police say remember, do not let anybody inside of your home without first showing proper identification. coming up, we are less than a week from the bay bridge shutting down completely to traffic. we will take a look at the new animation to get drivers ready for the switch to the new span,

history found a new home. two portions of the berlin wall are now on display. bob redell has more. bob, pretty cool, aren't they? >> reporter: yeah, the first time in a public space here in the bay area. good morning to you, marla. looking at those two sections of the berlin wall that once separated the east from the west, once represented the conflict between communism and democracy. they found a home outside the public library. one of the more unusual installation jobs for city workers and contractors, they man knewered these two towering pieces into their final resting place outside the library entrance. as you see, still doing some of that work, a process that required a lot of care, considering each piece stands almost 12 feet high, weighs close to three tons apiece. now, up until now, these historical artifacts were on display at a privately owned business park in mountain view the man who built that property brought the pieces over from germany in 1990, less than a year after the wall fell.

last year, his surviving children sold that property to google. the internet giant wasn't flood keeping the piece on their property but the city of mountain view was more than happy to receive that generous donation from the ghoulson family. >> long after i'm dead and gone, these two pieces of the wall will be here as a reminder to americanss as to our philosophy of democracy and capitalism and how important it is for people to live in freedom and liberty. >> what would your dad think? >> i think he would be proud. i know he would be proud. too bad he is not here today. he would be so enthusiastic and thankful the city received our donation. >> reporter: interesting backstory on how ghoulson acquired the pieces. his father, born in germany, went back to his homeland after the wall fell in '89 to try to buy one of the segments, it was too expensive, he waited six to

nine months for the interest to die down this time when he returned, these wall segments were being crushed for base rock for use in construction. not only did he get a good deal, the germans surprised him by sending him two segments instead of just the one he paid for. those two segments right here again, not sure exactly where they stood along that line, close to checkpoint charlie or someone else, but now permanent home outside the mountain view public library. here in mountain view, bob redell, nbc bay area news. we want to get you breaking news happening on the peninsula that is where the hazmat team is right now at the san mateo county government center in redwood city. this building has been evacuated after a county worker opened up a letter containing what they are saying is a mysterious powdery substance. that employee instantly felt sick after opening up that letter. apparently, this was an overnight package the employee opened up this morning. crews are there right now, checking the scene as you can see them there. going to spend some time analyzing that letter to find out and try to really see

exactly what made the woman sick. once again, the hazmat team out there in redwood city, investigating a powdery substance they found in an nfl. let's go ahead and take a look at the forecast now. very nice day throughout the bay area. the red flag warnings no longer. >> yeah. just to our north, they still stand. taking a live look here, mostly cloudy conditions, calm conditions, flight delays, an house, i want to show you, too amazing video, this is from southern louisiana where a sinkhole swallows up several tall fleece a matter of seconds, really impressive video here. the sinkhole has been growing since last august. as a result, you can see what happened there. that is very interesting stuff to show you. meanwhile, much quieter here. temperatures are really comfortable out there 68, livermore, 60, oakland, 70 degrees right now in gilroy. comfortable conditions persist. this is where we are looking for that red flag warning.

an iconic painting is back home in san francisco. we have some new video from this morning to show you when crews unloaded the newly restored pied piper of hamlin by max field parish there it is, all of its glory. >> good looking painting. it is huge t is going back up in its original location behind the piper bar at the palace hotel. it is right on montgomery, new montgomery and market street it hung in the hotel more than a century but in april, it was taken down and sent to new york to be auctioned off. that didn't happen and instead, the painting spent the last four months undergoing a complete restoration to remove more than 100 years of dirt and grime from its surface. the painting will be officially unveiled to the public this

evening. on the peninsula, firefighters thought doing a good deed in belmont, hitting the streets this morning, asking people to fill the boot. you probably get the idea. this is all part of an annual campaign to benefit the muscular dystrophy association. the firefighters, they have been out near the carl month shopping center collecting donations since about 7:30 this morning. looks like a lot of generous people there. these firefighters, the men who helped in so many ways, they will be out there until 1:00. last year, good news, they raised about $3,000. if you happen to see these gentlemen, dig deep and help out the cause. >> and ladies, sure there are ladies out there. >> i guess so >> we will be right back.
